Leaders, actors greet Kamal on 66th birthday

Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan turned 66 on Saturday and was greeted by several leaders including former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and DMK president MK Stalin.

Kamal Haasan cheered by fans and party cadre during his birthday celebrations in Chennai on Saturday

In a tweet, Gandhi said, “A very happy birthday to Thiru @ikamalhaasan. A strong voice that has contributed to modern Tamil culture.”

DMK president Stalin recalled that Haasan was praised as ‘’Kalaignani’’ by late party chief Kalaignar Karunanidhi and extended his wishes to him for a long life to his “dear friend”.

His contemporary and actor Rajinikanth greeted him over phone while several other cine personalities including actors Mohanlal, Prabhas, Mahesh Babu, Madhavan, lyricist Vairamuthu and ace director Bharathirajaa. The actor-turned-politician was given a warm reception by his party cadres who went on a bike rally to Poonamallee where he went for shoot. Haasan greeting his supporters standing through the sunroof of his car and by joining his hands, symbolising the logo of his party while accepting the greetings of cadres.

Earlier, the actor, in a statement, asked his party cadres to avoid celebrations of his birthday and instead focus on extending a helping hand to the needy.

He also noted that the death anniversary of his father Srinivasan also falls on November 7 and the actor said he used to be immersed in the thoughts of his father who taught him honesty and courage while well-wishers celebrated his birthday.
