Expressing shock at the alleged custodial death of Sevlamurugan of Kadambuliyur due to torture at Neyveli town police station, Stalin said that it was condemnable that such custodial deaths happen due to police torture despite the Madras High Court order and the state police chief’s circular on arrest guidelines to be followed by the cops.
Seeking to know if Selvamurugan was brought to the station for a genuine case or a fake case like in Saathankulam, the DMK president wondered why Selvamurugan, who was brought for inquiry, was brutally attacked and who were the cops who had attacked him?
Asking why the persons responsible for the death of Selvamurugan due to inhuman and illegal torture have not been arrested thus far, Stalin also asked the CM to conduct a thorough probe on how Selvamurugan was lodged in prison with wounds to cover up the custodial death.
Remarking that such incidents of custodial deaths in a few police stations were proof of the state police struggling without proper guidance in the AIADMK regime, Stalin described as ‘inhuman’ the refusal of Vadalur and Neyveli town police to register a “missing person” case based on the complaint of the victims’ wife and urged the CM not to spoil whatever pride is remaining of the state police by covering up the custodial death as usual.
