Pointing out that piers have already been constructed as per the original plan, Stalin said the proposal to make it a two-tier elevated corridor would completely realign the plan, leading to inordinate delay in execution.

The realignment proposed by the corrupt AIADMK government would only cause inordinate delay and not fructify, alleged the DMK president, also the Leader of Opposition, and added that the elevated expressway conceived by the previous DMK regime to ease traffic in the State capital should be executed in its existing alignment. Instead of honouring the assurance given by former union minister Pon Radhakrishnan that the project would be expedited, an announcement was made after the meeting of Union Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami that the project would be executed as a two-tier elevated corridor at a cost of Rs 5,000 crore, Stalin said.
