KS Krishnamurthy, from Thanjavur and a car mechanic and avid animal lover, lost his wife 40 years ago and his married daughters are now settled in Singapore and Chennai. Thereafter his friends decided to gift a lonely Krishnamurthy a Doberman and the bond was formed from Day 1 itself.
Since Abhirami was about to deliver a litter of puppies soon, Krishnamurthy decided on the ‘baby’ shower and made elaborate arrangements for his third daughter. He also sent out invitations to his family and relatives and got a silk attire made for the dog as well.
Abhirami was also made to wear gold jewellery and flower garlands and most importantly a face mask. Krishnamurthy had also arranged the ‘seer’ (gifting) procession from the Pillayar Temple by his kin who later applied sandalwood paste and kumkum on her forehead and tied bangles on the forelegs. Those who participated were given ‘thamboolam’ with snacks and fruits.
“She (Abhirami) is my third daughter and showers me with immense love,” Krishnamurthy said, adding, they even ate together, besides going on weekly drives. “As soon as I start the car, Abhi (Abhirami) jumps into the front seat and after a while, she sits on my lap and we enjoy the drive,” he said. He has also opened a bank account for her and the interest of Rs 2500 per month is used only for Abhirami. Krishnamurthy who once had 13 dogs, doves, roosters, leghorn hens, African birds and love birds, now has only African birds and love birds along with Abhirami at present.
