“The minister’s family members have themselves alleged that they were able to collect his body only after giving away a huge sum. His death was declared after a deal was struck in this regard,” he said adding that a probe should be ordered into the issue to unravel the mystery.

Udhayanidhi had raked up these issues just days after DMK leader MK Stalin too raised similar doubts, while questioning the arrest of some associates of the former Minister before his death was declared on October 31.

Stalin claimed that Doraikkannu’s family members were under pressure to return several crores of rupees before his death was declared. The stinking allegation made by DMK drew the ire of AIADMK leaders, who too warned of legal action.

Speaking to the media, while participating in a marriage function in Namakkal, Udhayanidhi exuded confidence that DMK will come to power by winning the polls, given the kind of response to the party events.

“The party’s youth wing has been bestowed with more responsibilities and separate teams have been formed to keep its online presence ahead of the polls,” he said.

Udhayanidhi, who had an interaction with youth wing office bearers in Erode district on Wednesday, had a similar meeting in Namakkal. He is also likely to visit other Western districts in the coming days to strengthen the party base.
