DVAC checks at govt offices yield Rs 17.25 lakh
As part of the last leg of festival time surprise checks at the government offices across Tamil Nadu, the sleuths from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, in the past two days, recovered more than Rs 17.25 lakh unaccounted money in searches on 15 premises.

On Thursday, the officials of the Vigilance & Anti–Corruption, along with Inspection Cell officers, conducted surprise checks at the Office of Deputy Director & Joint Director, Industrial Safety and Health and other government offices in Tirupur, Coimbatore, Erode, Tuticorin, Cuddalore, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Dharmapuri, Salem, Vellore, Tiruchi, Karur and Virudhunagar and seized unaccounted amount of Rs 16.08 lakh. Among these districts, at least in five cases, the government officials have obtained sweet and cracker boxes, flouting government rules and regulations.
“The matter is being investigated further and connected documents are being perused,” sources said.
On Friday, Salem DVAC officers conducted a surprise check at the office of the district manager, Tasmac, Salem and unaccounted amount of Rs 1,21 lakh was seized.
The amount was admittedly given by the supervisors of Tasmac shops attached to Tasmac depot, Santhiyur, Salem to the labourers of Tasmac godown as Deepavali mamool, a communication from the DVAC said.
