“It is shocking that the Union government had introduced several rules to make Tamil learning difficult for students of Kendriya Vidyalayas. Instructions like minimum of 20 students per class and restricting the number of Tamil classes per week is highly condemnable,” said Naam Tamilar Katchi leader Seeman, in a statement.

Recently, the Union government introduced several rules for KV schools such as making 20 number of students compulsory for Tamil, appointing only temporary teachers for Tamil and restricting the number of Tamil classes to just two or three per week.

Seeman said that the changes introduced by the Union government is against the interests of Tamil. “BJP government at the Centre is continuously acting against the interests of Tamil language and the new changes are examples of how the Union government is trying to suppress Tamil,” added Seeman.

Similarly, MDMK leader Vaiko too condemned the Union government for the changes introduced in KV. “Right from 2014, when BJP took charge, the party is acting against the interests of Tamils. KV schools which receive monetary aid and infrastructure from the state government and is acting against the interests of Tamil is highly condemnable,” said Vaiko.

Vaiko also urged the Union government to make Tamil learning compulsory from Classes 1 to 9 and to appoint Tamil teachers permanently in KV schools in the state.
