In view of the intensifying of the north east monsoon, the construction of a new regulator close to the collapsed one has been undertaken on a war footing.

District Collector S Sivarasu visited the spot on Tuesday and inquired about the progress of the works. The officials said that the construction would be completed as per the schedule by March 2021 and would be opened there after.

“We encountered challenges in completing the foundation works for the southern side of the upcoming regulator and we could complete them promptly now. This apart, 50 piers have successfully been installed and the works would pick up as well,” Assistant Executive Engineer K Jayaraman told DT Next.

Jayaraman also said that there was a setback while completing the foundation works for the entire stretch owing to several issues, including the heavy water flow. “Now, the major task has got over and the works would be completed as per the schedule,” he further said.

The Collector during his inspection instructed the officials to complete the project as per the schedule.
