Rain lashes several parts of TN, heavy downpour to continue for next 48 hrs

Several parts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Thoothukudi and Kancheepuram received heavy to very heavy rainfall on Monday. The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecasted heavy downpour in several districts across the State over the next 48 hours.

At least 18 cm of rainfall was received in Kancheepuram, while Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruvallur and Karur received more than 8 cm of rainfall since Sunday evening. Thoothukudi recorded more than 15 cm of rainfall on Monday, while Shollinganallur, Alandur, Adyar and other parts of South Chennai received at least 4 cm of rainfall on Monday. As per Regional Meteorological Centre, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over Thoothukudi, Cuddalore, Puducherry, Nagapattinam and Mayiladuthurai in the next 48 hours. 

Heavy rain is also expected at isolated places over Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukottai, Perambalur, Madurai, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Tiruvannamalai, Tirunelveli and Ariyalur. While the minimum and maximum temperatures in the city declined by about 2 degree Celsius and 1 degree Celsius respectively on Monday, the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy in Chennai and thunderstorms with light to heavy rains are expected in some areas in the next few days. According to Metro Water, the combined storage in all the lakes supplying water to the city is 6,706 mc ft against a total capacity of 11,257 mc ft as on Monday.
