CM hands over idols retrieved from London to Nagai temple

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday handed over antique idols of Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana, which were stolen from Rajagopala Perumal Temple in Nagapattinam district, back to the temple.

At the handing over function, the Chief Minister hailed the State Idol wing for taking efforts in restoring the properties of the temple after more than 40 years of investigation. When the idols were found in London, it was retrieved recently through Indian Embassy as per the guidelines of the Tamil Nadu government. Later the idols were sent to Delhi from London before it reached the state.

Chief Minister Palaniswami also sought his Haryana counterpart, Manohar Lal Khattar, to give provide arrangements for the evicted Tamil families living there for four decades. “We have received representations from 200 Tamil families living in Tamil Colony, Sector 21, Maheshpur village, Panchkula District in Haryana, claiming that they are residing in that area for more than 40 years and are now being evicted without provision of alternative land or residential accommodation,” he said in a letter to Manohar Lal.

As per the reports, in order to free panchayat land, the Haryana government has issued an order to evict the encroachers, who were occupying it illegally, as per the court order. “I request you to do the needful,” he added. Also expressing his condolences to the family of deceased Army man Karuppasamy from Thoothukudi, who was killed in an accident in Ladakh on last Thursday, Palaniswami ordered for a government job to a family member and instructed Information and Publicity Minister Kadambur Raju and the District Collector K Senthil Raj to meet the family on behalf of the government.
