“Chief Minister has been using the government functions to criticise the opposition parties and passing comments on opposition leaders. In the name of government functions, he has been holding political campaigns,” he said while leading a protest at Ennore against the encroachment of wetlands for the expansion of the Kamarajar port which threatens the livelihood of local fishermen and increase the risk of flooding during monsoon in the region. Alleging that AIADMK and BJP is enacting a drama in the state, he said that BJP leaders have been holding Vel Yatra which was banned by the government across the state and they were being arrested in the morning and let out in the evening.

“Whether the state government would adopt the same approach towards the opposition parties if they hold such protests?” he asked. He alleged that the opposition parties were not being allowed to hold the election campaigns. Balakrishnan alleged that AIADMK government has invited Home Minister Amit Shah to lay foundation for the project which already exists only to finalise their alliance for the state Assembly polls.
