Ten central trade unions including Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), and DMK affiliated Labour Progressive Federation (LPF) have called for the nationwide strike on November 26. In the state-run transport corporations, eight unions including LPF, CITU and AITUC, which are members of the Confederation of the Tamil Nadu Transport Corporation Trade Unions have announced their support. LPF Treasurer K. Natarajan said, “The Confederation will take part in the struggle seeking to repeal the labour laws which would take away hard-won rights of the workers, job security and drop the move to privatise the public sector undertakings.”

Further he said: “Passenger arrivals are low due to the Corona impact. However, adequate government buses are being operated to cater to the needs of the commuters. We have been operating buses for service purposes without looking at a profit on most routes. Therefore, the bus service will not be affected by the strike on the 26th. We have made arrangements for the full operation of government buses.”
