The distribution of second-semester text and notebooks started a week ago, for which children are to come to their schools with parents to collect them.
As the cyclone is expected to bring rains in the coming days, all government school authorities were asked to complete the distribution before Wednesday evening itself, said a senior School Education Department official.
“Parents were personally called and asked to come to the schools along with their children to collect the free textbooks within two days without fail so that distribution will not be affected by rain,” he added.
In some special cases, textbooks would be supplied directly at home, said the official.
Dry rations such as rice, dhal, black Bengal gram, green gram given to the children under the Puratchi Thaliavar MGR Nutritious Meal Programme would also be supplied along with textbooks, he said.
The official said the headmasters were also instructed to clear all the dry ration stock from the school, as they would spoil when kept in the storeroom during the rainy season.
