3 NDRF team deployed in Kumari

Each of the team comprises nineteen personnel, who have been deployed currently in Nagercoil and Colachel. The services of the NDRF personnel could be utilized based on necessity, Kanniyakumari Collector M Arvind said on Tuesday.

Already around thousand boats returned to Kanniyakumari. Further, he said 76 vulnerable areas, including 34 highly vulnerable spots have been identified across the district and 75 temporary relief shelters, including 35 in Vilavancode taluk have also been kept ready to accommodate people. Nine inter-department zonal teams led by Deputy Tahsildars have been formed to monitor the situation and ten first-respondents were deputed in each of the zones.

Besides 12 multi-purpose evacuation centres have been set up, the Collector told reporters.

Further, the Collector said dams, including major ones such as Pechiparai, Perunchani, Chittar-I and Chittar-II are in safe level zone with adequate capacity to store water when catchment areas receive heavy rainfall.

While water level in Perunchani (76 ft) dam stood at 70 ft until Tuesday morning, the level in Pechiparai dam (48 ft) is at 44 feet, the Collector said. However, the District Administration is prepared to face any disaster.
