Cadres of CPM and CPI on Wednesday staged protests across the state in solidarity with the farmers agitating in Delhi seeking repeal of the new farm laws.
Chennai
CPM cadre staged road-roko in front of the Indian Bank near Otteri bridge, BSNL office at Parrys’ Corner and Thiruvanmaiyur signal. While raising slogans in favour of the farmers and against the three farm laws introduced by the Central government, the protesters at Otteri were detained by the police when they tried to block traffic.
Leading the road-roko protest at Thiruvanmaiyur signal, CPM politburo member G Ramakrishnan hit out at the Narendra Modi government for not taking immediate steps to repeal the three farm legislation that was passed in a hurry without any discussion. “Farmers in the country have raised against the farms legislation that seeks to remove minimum support price for the agricultural produce and corporatisation of the agriculture and takeover of the agricultural land by the big businesses. Over one lakh farmers have marched towards Delhi from Punjab, Haryana, UP and Rajasthan seeking repeal of the legislation,” he said.
