“Muslims will continue to fight for justice until they recover what they lost and punish the perpetrators of the offence. The Supreme Court has given an unfair judgment making India a laughing stock among other countries,” said SDPI national vice president KKSM Tehlan Baqavi, while leading a protest in Coimbatore. Hundreds of Muslims gathered for the protest at Aathupalam area.

In Tirupur, the members of SDPI staged a protest in front of the railway station and shouted slogans against the BJP-led Union government.

In another protest, more than 150 members of All India Imams Council held a demonstration near Salem old bus stand against demolition of Babri Masjid. The protestors were all taken to a marriage hall and released later. Other Western districts too witnessed similar protests by Muslim organisations.

Due to protests, security was beefed up in Coimbatore. Police personnel were deployed in crowded areas and vital installations to prevent any untoward incidents. The baggage of passengers entering and exiting the railway station was checked thoroughly and vehicle checks were carried out throughout the district. Police claimed that the day passed off peacefully without any major untoward incident.
