1,235 new cases, 17 deaths logged in State

Tamil Nadu recorded 1,235 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, including two imported cases from Karnataka and Bihar. The total number of cases in the State has reached 7,96,475.

Of the new cases, 307 were reported in Chennai, while Coimbatore added 115 new cases, Salem 73, Tiruvallur 70 and Chengalpattu 69, said the bulletin issued by State Health Department. The State notified 17 more deaths, including nine in government hospitals and remaining eight in private hospitals. Six of the deaths were reported in Chennai, two each in Coimbatore, Thanjavur and Theni, and one each in Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Dindigul and Namakkal. Adding these, the coronavirus toll has reached 11,870. In all, 1,311 persons were discharged from hospitals across the State, bringing the total number of discharges to 7,74,306. Now, there are 10,299 active cases.

In the last 24 hours, 70,436 samples and 69,999 persons were tested for the infection.
