Rains likely in southern Tamil Nadu

Several parts of the State will get moderate to heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours and Southern districts will see intense showers like it witnessed earlier this month.

On Thursday, Villupuram received the highest rainfall, 17 cm. Places like Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Salem, Perambalur and Nagapattinam also received heavy rainfall. Parts of Chennai received at least 2 cm of rain.

In the next 48 hours, the cyclonic circulation near Sri Lanka is likely to bring heavy rainfall over southern districts until Saturday. Weather bloggers stated that heavy to moderate rainfall was expected due to the wind movement and depression formed near the southern part of Tamil Nadu.

As per updates from the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places in Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga and Karaikal.

In Chennai, the sky is likely to be generally cloudy as light rain will occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 31 and 25 degrees Celsius respectively.

On Thursday, Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 30.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24.2 degrees Celsius. Meenambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 30.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24.1 degrees Celsius respectively. The minimum and maximum temperatures in the city declined by about 1.4 degrees Celsius and one degree Celsius respectively.
