Injured wild jumbo treated with help of 2 kumkis

The tusker, aged around 40, had suffered a deep wound near its hip caused after it accidentally dashed into a sharp object, which could even be a branch of a tree. 

The operation began with former Joint Director of Animal Husbandry Department NS Manokaran darting the jumbo at 9 am. Even as the animal slipped into a semi-conscious state, both its front and hind legs were tied to trees and two kumkis Sujay and Wasim were deployed to bring the wild jumbo under control. The animal is suspected to be frequenting the neighbourhood out of excruciating pain caused by the wound. “A team of the Forest Department has been deputed to monitor the movement of the animal and healing of its wound. If needed, further treatment will be continued,” said an official. 

Guard trampled to death 

In another incident, Muhammed Nivaz, 65 from Selvapuram and working as a security guard was trampled to death on Marudamalai Main Road in Coimbatore on Monday morning. “As it was misty, Nivaz failed to notice the animal while he was going to have tea. The animal chased and trampled him to death,” said Forest Department staff.
