“The state government announced a cash gift of Rs 2,500 to celebrate Pongal festival as people were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. But, the DMK president MK Stalin is making false accusations that the AIADMK party men are distributing tokens by visiting door to door to collect the gift,” he said in Namakkal.

This statement from the Chief Minister comes after the DMK moved the Election Commission against the gift scheme stating that it is being promoted as a AIADMK scheme to influence voters.

“The DMK is working to stop the scheme as it has received overwhelming response from people and if implemented, the AIADMK will earn good credits. When the government gave Rs 1,000 last year to ration card holders, the DMK moved the court to stop distribution. The DMK does not like doing anything good to people,” he added.

Stating that former Chief Ministers MG Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa always thought that poor people should live happily with prosperity, the Chief Minister said hence the AIADMK government is fulfilling their thoughts.

“Both these leaders do not have heirs. But, we are their children and they have nurtured us. Hence the aim of this government is to fulfill their thoughts,” he said, while also appealing to people to cast their votes for the two leaves symbol.

In Rasipuram, the Chief Minister attacked DMK to have won seats in the last Parliamentary polls by giving false promises. “After winning did they do anything for people? They lied to even waive loans for up to five grams of gold pledged in co-operatives and public banks. Even during the Parliamentary polls the DMK leaders received petitions from the public. It was just a poll gimmick and now again they have started going around receiving petitions. People will not believe them and reject DMK in the polls,” he said.

Earlier, the Chief Minister offered prayers at the Anjaneyar temple in Namakkal before launching the party’s poll campaign, ‘Vetrinadai Podum Tamizhagam’ (Tamil Nadu is on a success track). He also interacted with vendors at the temple premises and carried out a door to door campaign.
