In a statement, CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan said that the second phase of medical counselling would begin from January 5 to fillup seats in self-financing colleges. “Practice across the country is to hold counselling for MBBS seats first followed by BDS seats. But the State government has announced that the counselling in the second phase would be first held for BDS seats and then MBBS. It is against the normal practice,” he said,

Balakrishnan noted that a student who got admission in the BDS counselling should pay the fees for five years if he gets a MBBS seat in the counselling subsequently. “Such a system only favours private dental colleges. It is highly condemnable that the government functions as an agent of the private colleges,” he said, demanding the government to hold the medical counselling in the second phase first.
