Accordingly, the State Skill Centre will be tying up with multi-national companies to set up an inter-related high technology, modular, skilling facility and offer demand-driven courses.

A senior official from the State-owned Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC), the nodal agency to implement the training courses, told DT Next that apart from auto, banking and financial services, hospital and health care services and construction and infrastructure sectors have been included in the programme.

“The TNSDC intends to select a Lead Implementation Partner (LIP) in each of the five sectors,” he said adding the LIP will set up Apex Skill Development Centre (ASDC), which would associate with national and international partners to implement the programme”.

The official said that the ASDC will be envisioned to be established as a state of the art Centre of Excellence (CoE), which will have the latest learning equipment, tools, and machines to be used for training purpose.

Stating that the ASDC will be located in an existing ITI, Industrial Estate, or any other appropriate space identified by the State government, he said: “ASDC will be constantly upgraded and would provide multi-skills using technology during the training. Preference will be given for the training courses in new, upcoming, emerging and disruptive areas.

Claiming that at the end of each training programme, the ASDC would facilitate placement of trained candidates, he said: “The extent of placement of candidates in relevant jobs will be a key assessment metric of the quality and relevance of the training provided. For each trainee, the skill development centre would facilitate industry linkages for apprenticeship and on-the-job training programmes.”
