Police intervention in civil dispute stopped

In view of a specific stand taken by the Deputy Director General of Police, Villupuram district and the Superintendent of Police, Cuddalore district of not entering into civil disputes, the Madras High Court disposed a plea seeking action against the special sub-inspector of police, Thittagudi police station for conducting Kattapanchayat (Kangaroo court).

The criminal original petition moved by one Dharmalingam had sought action against the special sub-inspector. The Government Advocate submitted that the parties have been advised to approach the competent civil court.

Justice N Anand Venkatesh on disposing the plea said, “In view of the specific stand taken by the respondents, it is made clear that the Thittagudi police station will not be interfering into the property dispute and it is left open to the parties to agitate their rights before competent civil court.
