Chennai

Agricultural Minister MRK Panneerselvam started presenting the first ever independent Agriculture budget in the history of Tamil Nadu.

Agriculture Minister announce State govt will take steps to commence cultivation in 11.75 lakh hectare barren lands in the state, in the next 10 years.

Tamil Nadu will launch 'Palm Development Scheme' through which 76 lakh palm seeds will be sold in 30 districts.

State will launch Collective Farming Scheme in which 1.1 lakh farmers will be integrated this year. Rs 59 crore has been allotted for the scheme.

Special incentive of Rs 150 per tonne will be given to sugarcane farmers to boost production. Rs 138 crore has been allotted to this initiative.

Sugarcane farmers will now receive Rs 2,900 per tonne of sugarcane when compared to Rs 2,750 in the previous govt.

Turmeric research centre to be established in Erode at an area of 100 acres.
