Stalin, leaders pay tributes to Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar
The 114th Thevar Jayanthi and 59th Guru Puja of freedom fighter Muthuramalinga Thevar was observed at his memorial in Pasumpon near Kamuthi of Ramanathapuram district on Saturday.

Chief Minister MK Stalin paid homage at the memorial to mark the occasion. The Chief Minister visited the memorial at 9.40 am, placed a wreath and paid respects to the departed leader and other Ministers of the ruling party followed suit. He also took a glance at the exhibits highlighting Thevar’s life history, sources said.
Several people in the morning hours performed yagasala puja at the memorial. Earlier, the jubilant cadre of DMK accorded warm welcome to the Chief Minister. Police force was deployed adequately and COVID curbs were put in place by the district administration.
Ahead of his schedule in Pasumpon, the Chief Minister and Ministers of various portfolios garlanded Thevar’s statue at Goripalayam in Madurai and subsequently paid respects to Maruthu Pandiyar brothers after paying floral tributes to their statue in Teppakulam, Madurai, sources said.
While returning, Stalin made a surprise inspection of the seventh mega COVID vaccination camp at Gandhi Nagar near Aruppukottai in Virudhunagar district. During the inspection, he interacted with some of those in the camp and enquired with officials about the progress in the vaccination drive across the district.
Stalin was accompanied by Revenue Minister KKSSR Ramachandran, Industries Minister Thangam Thennarasu and officials from the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, sources said.
Top AIADMK leaders skip event at Pasumpon
However, key leaders of the AIADMK did not make their way to Pasumpon for some reasons this time, but former AIADMK ministers, including Sellur K Raju, Dindigul C Sreenivasan and others paid homage.
AIADMK coordinator and former deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam paid tributes to Thevar’s statue in his hometown of Periyakulam in Theni district, sources said. While, in Chennai, Opposition AIADMK joint coordinator and former chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami paid floral tributes at the Thevar statue at Nandanam area in the city.
Leaders of various political parties also paid tributes to Thevar at Pasumpon to mark the occasion.
