Sasikala meets actor Rajinikanth, wife at his Poes Garden residence

Ousted AIADMK leader V K Sasikala on Monday evening called on actor Rajnikanth at his Poes Garden residence and enquired about his health. She also congratulated him for receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke award conferred by the centre.

The high profile meeting lasted for about an hour and created a sensation until Sasikala clarified that the meeting was just a courtesy call. “I enquired about the health of Rajnikanth and wholeheartedly congratulated him for receiving the highest award in the film industry,” read the statement issued by Sasikala adding that Latha Rajnikanth was also present during the meeting.

Rajnikanth and former chief minister J Jayalalithaa had bitter experiences as neighbours in Poes Garden as both attracted crowd. An AIADMK leader calling on Rajinikanth was something unusual till Jayalalithaa was alive but now Sasikala seems to have reached out to the actor as a goodwill gesture, said an informed AMMK functionary confirming that politics was not discussed in the meeting which lasted for more than a month. Sasikala has been a resident of Poes Garden for more than three decades and is likely to move to the locality as one of her relatives' sites is under construction. Sasikala also frequents a pillayar temple near Veda Nilayam, the residence of former chief minister Jayalalithaa at Poes Garden.
