Presumed dead man comes alive
A 55-year-old daily wager, who was presumed to be dead by his family members, came alive in Erode district on Monday night.
COIMBATORE: Though shocked, the family members were pleasantly surprised to welcome back Murthi, a farm labourer from Punjaithuraiyampalayam near Bangalapudur.
According to police, Murthi left home to work in a farm to harvest sugarcane a few months ago. As he did not return, the family members, including his two sons Karthi and Prabhu Kumar made a futile search.
Meanwhile, the family members got information from a relative that a body of a man resembling Murthi had been lying abandoned in Sathyamangalam bus stop on March 31.
Though the face was beyond recognition, the family members identified the body to be that of Murthi based on his physical appearance. They then buried the body after performing the rituals.
However, on Monday Murthi turned up at his house. On receiving information, Sathyamangalam police rushed to the house and held an inquiry.
Clueless over the identity of the man, who was buried, the police have decided to exhume his body to perform a post mortem. Further inquiries are on.
This incident happened a day after a similar incident in Coimbatore, where two dead bodies were swapped while handing them over to their family members.
