Tirupattur to get new district registrar’s office
The Commercial Taxes and Registration Department recently issued orders for the formation of district registrar’s (DR) office headquartered at Tirupattur.
TIRUPATTUR: Sources said that the registrar’s office was a much-needed facility in Tirupattur as even after the district was formed on August 15, 2019, residents had to travel to Vellore for registration of documents.
According to officials in Chennai, though Tirupattur had five sub registrar offices located at Ambur, Vaniyambadi, Tirupattur, Jolarpet and Natrampalli, 7 villages in Ambur region were attached to the Pernambur revenue taluk in Vellore revenue district.
Top officials of the department said that the new office would function temporarily from a rented premises and space had been allocated in the District Collectorate nearing completion in Tirupattur town. The government order stated that district registrar office boundaries would be redrawn.
However, a war of words erupted in Arakkonam town where under the above scheme, the government planned to shift the district registrar’s office from Arakkonam to Ranipet the district HQ.
Arakkonam AIADMK MLA S Ravi told this reporter that “the district registrar’s office was functioning in the town from the early 1980s. A separate building was constructed at a cost of Rs 1.35 crore for the department in 2012. The move has not gone well with the local people, who voted for the DMK.”
A top department official said, “the DR office building in Arakkonam will be used to house the sub-registrar’s office and any other government department which lacked its own premises, will also be accommodated. The only change will be that residents will get the service at Ranipet itself and need not travel up to Arakkonam.”
