Priority for ex-‘Makkal Nala Paniyalargal’ in MGNREGS posts: CM

Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday announced that ‘Makkal Nala Paniyalargal,’ who were removed by the previous AIADMK rule in 2011, will be given priority for the coordinator post under the Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

CHENNAI: “If ‘Makkal Nala Paniyalargal’ wish to be appointed as coordinators under rural employment guarantee scheme they will be given priority in all the 12,524 village panchayats. The designated salary of Rs 3,000 per month for coordinators will also be increased to Rs 5,000 per month,” said Stalin, in the Assembly.

The Chief Minister said as ‘Makkal Nala Paniyalargal’ have experience in rural administration they can also be entrusted with additional works with an extra payment of Rs 2,500 per month, which will take their total salary to Rs 7,500 per month. Apart from that the wards of ‘Makkal Nala Paniyalargal,’ who had died in the last 10 years, will also be given priority in the job of coordinators in MGNREGS.

Former chief minister M Karunanidhi appointed ‘Makkal Nala Paniyalargal’ in 1989, but the subsequent AIADMK regimes removed them and now the case seeking their reinstatement is pending before the Supreme Court.
