Man, daughter killed, wife injured in house collapse in Madurai

Madurai: A father, daughter duo was killed and a woman injured in a house collapse in Tenkasi in the early hours of Tuesday.

The incident occurred at 12.10 am, at Vagaikulam village near Alwarkurichi while they were asleep, sources said.

Officials after learning about the incident, inspected the spot on Vadakkathi Street at 2.30 am, and said it was an old building and moreover it rained intermittently over the last three days.

The victims have been identified as Kalyanasundaram (60) and his daughter Revathi (25). They succumbed to injuries on the spot, meanwhile his wife Velammal (55) was admitted to Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital after being injured on her chest and leg, sources added.

According to Tenkasi Revenue Divisional Officer V Gangajothi, the other three daughters of Kalyanasundaram insisted on him to stay away from the house citing safety concerns. But, Kalyanasundaram was adamant as it’s maintained as a traditional property. Kalyanasundaram’s body was found lying under debris of the collapsed building. As precaution, Kalyanasundaram’s brother, who stayed in the other portion of the house, was asked to move away immediately.
