Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the rally to commemorate the Vedaranyam Salt March in view of 75th Independence Day organised by the TNCC, Chidambaram said, we have been losing the freedom of language, speech, writing and food. It is time to recall how the leaders commenced and stood firm in their fight 92 years back when they felt that they were losing their freedom.

Former president of TNCC EVKS Elangovan said, some forces are trying to split India on lines of language, religion and caste. “This type of attempt by the Centre will damage the unity and will end like the disintegration of Soviet Union,” he cautioned.

TNCC leader KS Alagiri flagged off the march at Vedarnayam March memorial near central bus stand. Former president KV Thangabalu and other leaders were present.
