PMK elects Anbumani Ramadoss as party president

Anbumani who had served as former health minister has been active in politics for the last 25 years since the Vanniyar reservation protest spearheaded by PMK in 1987.

CHENNAI: PMK youth wing leader Dr Anbumani Ramadoss was unanimously elected as the new party president. A resolution to this effect was adopted at the special general council meeting of the PMK held at Tiruverkadu near here on Saturday.

The political resolution successfully moved by G K Mani for elevating Anbumani Ramadoss at the meeting said that Mani had proposed to Dr Ramadoss senior and the party functionaries earlier that the party presidentship should be entrusted on the next generation to successfully implement PMK 2.0 action plan to take the party to the next level and make it the ruling party.

Stating that there was unanimity among the functionaries on appointing youth wing head and former union minister Anbumani as the president of the party, the resolution said, “The general council firmly believes that Anbumani would take the party to new heights as the party president.”

Reviving its clarion call to capture power, the resolution said that the special general council considers Anbumani to be the fitting person to fulfil the cadre’s expectation of strengthening and transforming the PMK into the position of the ruling party. The special general council also thanked and lauded G K Mani for steering the party through successful and difficult times as the president of the party during the last 25 years.

The general council also adopted eight other resolutions, including one seeking more subsidy from the union government for reducing the price of domestic LPG cylinder price and reservation for Tamils in private sector jobs.
