Days before retirement, SSI kills self in Tiruvarur
In the note, the SSI contended that he does not wish to live as an accused for a crime he did not commit and urged senior police officers to investigate into the issue ‘at least after his death’
CHENNAI: A special sub-inspector with Tamil Nadu police, due for retirement on August 31, attempted to end his life by immolation in front of the State Human Rights Commission office in RA Puram on Friday, blaming the CB-CID cops for allegedly framing him in a custodial death case in 2015.
The police official was identified as R Muruganandam, serving in Tiruvarur district. He had come to the office for an enquiry in connection with the custodial death case.
"After the inquiry, Muruganandam attempted to kill self. He was rescued and sent home,” said a police officer.
Police sources said that a note was recovered from Muruganandam, in which he expressed innocence and stated that an Inspector with CB-CID is trying to fix him.
