1 Covid-fatality in Salem takes death toll to 38,035 in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu reported 512 new COVID cases on Monday, including three cases from Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Puducherry and Bangladesh. Total tally in the State stands at 35,67,672 cases. Chennai reported 77 new cases, Coimbatore had 67 cases, Salem 36 and Chengalpattu recorded 34 cases. The testing of samples stood at 20,114, keeping the overall test positivity rate at 2.3%. Coimbatore had the highest TPR of 6.2%. One COVID death on Monday took death toll to 38,035. A senior citizen (73) from Salem tested positive on August 19, and was admitted to Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College-Hospital, Salem, on August 24 with complaints of fever and difficulty in breathing. He had several comorbid conditions including diabetes, hypertension coronary artery disease and diabetic nephropathy. He died on Sunday afternoon due to respiratory failure and COVID-induced pneumonia.
