Jaya’s death: TN likely to probe Sasikala, Vijayabaskar, 2 others

CHENNAI: Following the discussions in State cabinet meeting, the State government on Monday announced that based on the recommendations of Justice Arumugasamy commission, action is likely to be taken on VK Sasikala, aide of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, former Health Minister C Vijayabaskar, former Chief Secretary P Rama Mohana Rao and Jayalalithaa's personal physician Dr Sivakumar.

"The report of Arumugasamy commission which was submitted to the State government on August 27, was discussed in detail in the Cabinet meeting and it was decided to get the opinion of legal experts, to take action on Sasikala, Vijayabaskar, Rama Mohana Rao and Sivakumar and to table the report on the State Assembly along with the action taken report,” said the State government, in a press communique.

The report of Justice Aruna Jagadeesan commission which probed into the infamous Thoothukudi police firing during the Sterlite protests was also discussed in detail in the Cabinet meeting. "Based on the report of Aruna Jagadeesan commission, departmental action has been recommended on 17 policemen and 4 officials, including Thoothukudi district Collector, and the status of the recommendation was discussed in the cabinet meeting. The cabinet has decided to table the report of the Aruna Jagadeesan commission along with the action taken report in the State Assembly," it said.

Also, the harmful effects of online games including online rummy was discussed in detail by the cabinet. "The cabinet was informed about the Ordinance to be issued for banning online games including online rummy. It was also informed that the verdicts of the courts along with the opinion of public and experts would be taken into account while enacting the ordinance, " said the release.

Sources who attended the cabinet meeting said that the scheme of providing Rs 1,000 to girl students opting for higher education was also discussed and it was announced that the State government is planning to invite Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to inaugurate the scheme on September 5. The government is also likely to launch the free breakfast scheme for government school students on September 15 and it was also discussed in the cabinet meeting.

Sources also said that the Chief Minister M K Stalin appreciated Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan for his remarks justifying the stand of the State government on freebies.
