CHENNAI: The Madras High Court had directed the Tamil Nadu government to furnish the details of the 4500 typists and steno typists appointed through the Tamil Nadu Public Services Commission (TNPSC) in the year 2006 and 2007.

Justice R Suresh Kumar passed the direction on hearing a batch of writ petitions filed by typists and steno typists in the agriculture department. The petitioners prayed for a direction to implement the benefit of fitment as per the 7th pay commission.

According to the petitioners, there were several irregularities in implementing the seventh pay commission in the government departments.

“While there were discrepancies in effecting the seventh pay commission, the state constituted a commission to inquire about the issues. After finding out the problems, the commission gave several recommendations to the government, and the same was implemented in 2010. As per the recommendation, the state declared that the fitment benefit of 1.86 percent will not be applicable for people who joined the service after 2009. However, about 4500 typists and steno typists who joined the service in education, finance, revenue, and health departments after 2009 are getting the benefit of the fitment of 1.86 percent, ” the petitioners submitted.

The petitioners sought the same benefit should be extended to the typists and steno typists in the agriculture department.

Recording the submissions, the judge directed the state to submit the entire list of 4500 selectees who have been selected by TNPSC as Typists and Stenotypists in the years 2006 and 2007.

The judge directed the government to further file the details of the department-wise allocation of those selectees made by the TNPSC.

Out of those selectees, in each department how many of them are appointed and are working? Out of those appointed and working, how many of them department-wise have been extended the benefit of the fitment of 1.86%?, the court asked and directed the government to submit those details.

The matter has been adjourned to September 26.
