Trio held for assaulting father-daughter during Vinayagar procession

VELLORE: Ambur taluk police arrested 3 persons who assaulted the traditional headman and his daughter over an altercation in the Ganesh chaturthi idol procession at Minnur near Ambur on Friday night.

Headman Raja and daughter Akila were assaulted by one Ramesh (46) and his sons Vijay (24) and Ajith (21), when Raja citing overhead tree branches asked for the procession to take an alternate route as he said the branches would hit the idol.

Akila was admitted to the Ambur government hospital while Ambur taluk police registered a case. Investigations are continuing.
