Youth, 14-year-old girl die by suicide as parents refused to accept their affair

TIRUCHY: A 24-year-old youth and a 14-year-old girl died by hanging from a tree near a temple in Pudukkottai after parents failed to accept their affair. L Arun (24), a resident from Kadai Idayathur village in Pudukkottai, a painter, was reportedly in love with a Class 9 girl from the locality. Arun had bought a mobile phone for the girl, which the teachers found and reported it to her parents. She was stopped from going to school and sent to a tailoring class. On Friday, she did not return home. Her parents searched for her but in vain. Meanwhile, the public who passed the Pidariammal temple premises found the bodies of two people hanging from the tree. They passed on the information to Nagudi police who rushed to the spot and identified the bodies as that of the girl and Arun. The bodies were brought down and sent to Aranthangi GH. Police registered case and are investigating.
