CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu recorded 445 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. The total number of cases in the State stands at 35.71 lakh. Chennai recorded 81 new cases, Coimbatore had 59 and Chengalpattu had 36 cases. Active cases stand at 4,945 currently, with Chennai reporting the highest with 2,139 active count.
TN’s test positivity rate is 2.6% with 17,681 samples tested in 24 hours, Coimbatore recorded the highest TPR of 6.3%. A 52-years-old woman from Salem with systemic hypertension was admitted on September 2 at Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College, Salem, with complaints of fever, cough and difficulty in breathing. A day later, she was tested positive for COVID-19, and died on September 5 due to COVID-induced pneumonia and respiratory failure. The death toll increased to 38,038.
