CHENNAI: Justice GK Ilanthiraiyan of Madras High Court on Wednesday reserved orders in a case filed by former minister D Jayakumar to quash an FIR filed against him on charges of threatening and grabbing land worth to the tune of Rs 5 crore in the city. The judge is to pronounce the orders on September 13.
Jayakumar prayed for quashing the case booked by the Central Crime Branch of the city police. The petitioner submitted that the case was a foisted one and was filed merely on political vendetta.
According to Jayakumar, the complainant has filed the complaint only in 2021 while he is claiming that the alleged incident happened in 2016. However, the complainant named P Magesh Kumar, brother of Jayakumar’s son-in-law submitted that he was not in a position to complain against Jayakumar in 2016 as he was associated with the ruling party and then a minister.
In February this year, the CCB booked Jayakumar under six sections for allegedly threatening and grabbing land worth Rs 5 crore at a cheaper price from Magesh. While Jayakumar was arrested in another case for unshirting and parading a DMK worker during the local body polls, the CCB filed the land grabbing case. Jayakumar got bail in these cases on April 1.
