Kodiyampalayam fishermen to get landside facility soon
Inspecting the site identified by the Fisheries Department along with the SP, officials from revenue, fisheries, rural development and the fire and rescue department, Collector Lalitha said, there was a long pending demand of the fishermen from the area to have a landside facility for which an administrative sanction has been made.
TIRUCHY: A landside facility for fishermen to the tune of Rs 2.85 crore has been planned in the district for which the land identification has been completed at Kodiyampalayam, said Mayiladuthurai Collector R Lalitha on Tuesday.
Inspecting the site identified by the Fisheries Department along with the SP, officials from revenue, fisheries, rural development and the fire and rescue department, Collector Lalitha said, there was a long pending demand of the fishermen from the area to have a landside facility for which an administrative sanction has been made. With the sanctioned fund of Rs 2.85 crore, the components like quay with precast block, auction hall, net mending shed, approach road and electrification with water supply arrangements would be made.
She said that there are as many as 21 motorised non-mechanical boats and one mechanised boat in the village of Kodiyampalayam and this facility would provide them a safe and hygienic environment and uplift their socio-economic status.
Similarly, as per the announcement of Chief Minister MK Stalin to expand the mangrove forests, Mayiladuthurai administration has planned to establish an extension adjacent to the spot. “We would soon commence the work with the support of NGOs and local residents and the Forest Department would monitor the entire process,” she said.
