Light vehicles allowed to use Palani Road from Kodaikanal

MADURAI: After a week’s time, vehicular traffic on Palani Road from the hill station of Kodaikanal, Dindigul district, resumed on Wednesday. In the wake of heavy rainfall, a portion of Palani Road at Savarikadu suffered damage, halting traffic since last week.

Only light vehicles are allowed to ply on Palani Road as the Highways Department completed a temporary restoration work. However, works are still underway and other heavy vehicles could be allowed from Thursday, sources said.

According to Kodaikanal Tahsildar A Muthuraman, tourists and other travellers from parts of Coimbatore, Pollachi and the neighbouring state of Kerala would normally access the Palani Road to spend their time in Kodaikanal. The resumption of light vehicular traffic could have provided some sort of a relief to them.

There are three entry points, including one from Batlagundu and Palani Road and the other one’s is the Adukkam route. Among these routes, Batlagundu Road is the most used by travellers and to its next is Palani Road. As for Adukkam Road, the flow of traffic is not that much since people from Periyakulam in the neighbouring Theni district would take this route, the Tahsildar said.
