Disposal rate was high during my stint: Outgoing CJ Bhandari

While attending a farewell function in the Madras HC, Justice Bhandari thanked the bar and other members of the judiciary for making this possible.

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court’s outgoing Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari on Monday said that the disposal rate of the Madras High Court was very high during his tenure of ten months when compared with the other HCs in the country.

While attending a farewell function in the Madras HC, Justice Bhandari thanked the bar and other members of the judiciary for making this possible.

“The bar is the mother of the bench. This is coming from my heart since I remained as the president of the HC bar. The success of the bench depends upon the quality of the bar, ”

Justice MN Bhandari noted.

He further added that the Madras Bar is one of the best bars in the country.

The outgoing CJ also thanked the Tamil Nadu government and CM MK Stalin for extending a cordial relationship. “I thank the government for extending kind cooperation on building the infra facility for the Madras HC, ” the judge said.

Justice Bhandari also made an emotional note about the state that the people of TN are known for their unconditional love and hospitality.

“What a wonderful state to live in here and the kind of people to mingle with. I and my wife Karuna would forever remember the love and affection given by the people of Tamil Nadu over the past 10 months. I will always cherish the memories which I got from TN. Please don’t forget me, ” the CJ concluded.

State Advocate General R Shunmugasundaram, Additional Solicitor General of India R Shankaranarayanan and other law officers, office bearers of Bar council of TN and PY, Madras Bar Association, Madras HC Advocates’ Association, and Madras HC women advocates’ association took part in the farewell.

It is noted that the CJ during his stint has passed several notable judgments. Certainly, he was tougher when handling the land encroachment cases.

The outgoing CJ will soon take over the SAFEMA (Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators Act) appellate tribunal. Justice M Duraiswamy of Madras HC will serve as the Acting CJ of the HC.
