CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by AIADMK’s Chennai district secretary to withdraw the police security extended to former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam.

Justice GK Ilanthiraiyan who heard the petition had dismissed it at the time of admissions. The judge held that the court cannot allow these kinds of petitions filed without any grounds.

Adhi Rajaram, the AIADMK district secretary submitted that OPS is not a CM now and he has no threat. He further said in his affidavit that it is unnecessary to provide security to OPS as he is not in the office. However, the judge expressed his dissatisfaction with the petitioner for filing it without the merits.

Rajaram also mentioned that when OPS and his men stormed the AIADMK head office on July 11, police gave protection to him. He further claimed that since police escorted OPS, AIADMK was not in a position to stop OPS and his men from entering the party office, which led to the subsequent violence and theft of officer materials.

Advocate Rajalakhsmi for OPS noted that they did not put any arguments in the case since the judge dismissed the case by reading the petition itself. The judge was upset with the petition and he warned that he would impose costs on such petitions according to Rajalakshmi.
