Stalin also inaugurated Micro Clusters in southern Tamil Nadu, as part of efforts to ensure sustainable employment opportunities in semi-urban and rural regions.
MADURAI: To make Madurai a technology hub, an information technology park would be set up here at a cost of about Rs 600 crore, Chief Minister MK Stalin said on Friday.
Addressing the southern regional MSME meet titled ‘Thol Koduppom Thozhilikku’, Stalin said the park would be set up by the State-run TIDEL in association with the Madurai Corporation in two phases.

The state-of-the-art facility will come up on five acres of land at Mattuthavani in the first phase and the second phase would be set up on five more acres. Once the first phase of the TIDEL park is operational, the facility will provide 10,000 jobs and pave the way for Madurai’s economic growth. Around 50,000 registered MSME units are functional across Madurai, providing jobs to 3.37 lakh people.
Meanwhile, the CM also inaugurated the online rental agreement registration. After the launch of Tamil Nadu Credit Guarantee Scheme (TNCGS) for the MSME sector last month, he said credit facilities to the tune of Rs. 20.13 crore have been provided to benefit 81 MSME units so far.
Of the 42 GI registered products in TN, 18 products belong to the southern region. Moreover, he said 25 products including ‘Cumbum Paneer grapes’ await GI registration. Since consumers abroad are receptive to the GI tagged products, initiatives should be taken to increase the productivity and boost exports to bring more pride to TN, he said.
