Ma Su reviews CMCHIS scheme, says 1.19 cr benefited so far

The Health Minister said that at least 1.19 crore people have been benefitted under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme since July 23, 2009 to 31st August 2022.

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian reviewed the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme and the functioning of the scheme through the Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project on Tuesday.

The Health Minister said that at least 1.19 crore people have been benefitted under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme since July 23, 2009 to 31st August 2022. At least Rs. 10,835 crore have been spent on the total beneficiaries of the scheme so far. At least 1,513 treatment services and procedures have been approved under this scheme.

Reviewing the scheme, the Health Minister said that the scheme includes eight specialised advanced treatments, 52 complete diagnostic procedures and 11 special treatments. A total of 1,733 hospitals, including 937 private hospitals and 796 government hospitals, have been approved under this scheme. "The cost of treatment in government hospitals under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme has increased from 37 per cent to 48 per cent in the present regime of the government," he said.

The Health Minister emphasised on the need of attention towards increasing incidence of cardiovascular diseases and the role of diabetes and high blood pressure towards the same.

"At present, 19 Government Medical College hospitals have installed Cath Lab facilities worth Rs 4.5 crore to Rs 7.5 crore each. The government is taking steps to gradually implement these high-quality equipment in all government medical college hospitals," he said.

He added that the required equipment and essentials for the functioning of the cath lab are covered under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme.
