COIMBATORE: A two-week-old baby elephant was reunited with its mother in Gudalur forest division in the Nilgiris on Wednesday.
Estate workers spotted the calf lying near a waterfall on the side of a road leading to Glenrock Coffee Estate in Pandalur Range. On receiving information, the forest department staff arrived and woke up the calf and helped it drink water from a nearby stream.
“Meanwhile, another team went around in search of the mother elephant and managed to find the adult in two hours. Then, the calf was released from a short distance away from the mother elephant. It joined with its mother and moved together into the forest area. The animal was monitored for an hour and found the calf being fed by its mother,” said an official.
