Trio murders man, chops him into pieces, arrested in Kovai

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore rural police cracked the brutal murder of a 39-year-old man, who was killed and his body chopped into 12 pieces, and arrested three persons, including a woman on Wednesday.

Police have so far recovered eight body parts of the deceased Prabhu from Saravanampatty, who was employed in a beauty parlour in Gandhipuram.

West Zone IG R Sudhakar said to media that Prabhu’s paramour Kavitha (30) conspired and executed the murder with her two friends Amul Diwakar (34) and Karthik (28) after he threatened to make their affair public by posting their intimate photos in social media. He did not like Kavitha getting closer to Amul Diwakar, employed as an electrician in an IT firm.

On 15 September, the Thudiyalur police recovered a severed left hand from a garbage bin. By matching the fingerprints, police confirmed that the severed hand belonged to Prabhu, who was missing.

Soon, eight special teams were formed and visuals recorded in more than 150 CCTV’s in Saravanampatti locality were checked. The crime unfolded at the house of Amul Diwakar in Gandhi Maanagar. He was murdered brutally, chopped into pieces, stuffed in a bag and dumped in an abandoned well in Thudiyalur. Some of the body parts were thrown into a garbage bin.

The IG said special teams have so far recovered head, legs and some more, while a search is on for four more body parts. Also, weapons and a two-wheeler used by the culprits were seized.

The special teams of police, comprising a total of 43 cops were given a cash reward of Rs 30,000 for cracking down the murder within six days.
