Man gets lifer for sexually assaulting diffabled woman

TIRUCHY: Ariyalur Mahila court on Thursday awarded life imprisonment to a man on charges of sexually assaulting a speech-impaired woman and impregnating her.
In 2016, V Senthil (43), a resident of Soorakuzhi village near Andimadam in Ariyalur district threatened a 32-year-old woman with killing of her three-year-old baby girl and sexually abused her forcefully on multiple occasions thereby impregnating her.
The woman complained to her relatives and they lodged a complaint with Jayankondam All Women Police station. Police conducted an investigation and later arrested Senthil.
The case was in progress at Ariyalur Mahila Court. On Thursday, judge Anandan who heard the case awarded life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 to Senthil. Subsequently, he was lodged in the central prison.

Similarly, in 2019, V Arunkumar (23), a resident from Perumakkanallur near Papanasam in Thanjavur had forcibly taken a 5-year-old girl to a secluded place in the locality and sexually abused her. The girl, who was crying out of pain, narrated the incident to her grandmother who lodged a complaint with Papanasam All Women police station. The police registered a case under various sections, including the Pocso Act and arrested Arunkumar.
The case was in progress in Thanjavur court and on Wednesday, the judge Soundarajan who heard the case awarded 20 years of imprisonment and fine of Rs 50,000 to Arunkumar. The judge also recommended a compensation of Rs 2 lakh from the government to the victim.
