TN cabinet to meet on Monday, to discuss Parandur protest

CHENNAI: The eighth cabinet meeting of the ruling DMK government will be held at the Secretariat on Monday, September 26. In the meeting, the dates for the Assembly session are likely to be discussed.

"The state Assembly session should be conducted within six months of the last conducted session. As the last session ended on May 10, this year, the State government is planning to hold the session by the middle of October. The dates and the number of the days of the Assembly session will likely be decided in the cabinet meeting," said sources in the Secretariat.

The last cabinet meeting was held on August 29 and within a span of one month the State government has called for another meeting.

Sources also said that already the government has announced that the reports of Aruna Jagadeesan commission, which inquired the police excess in the anti-Sterlite protests, and Arumugasamy commission, which inquired the alleged suspicion in the death of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, will be tabled in the Assembly.

Along with the reports, the government is also likely to pass the Bill on online rummy. Earlier, the government decided to issue an ordinance on online rummy, but now as the Assembly session is about to be convened the Bill will be passed in the Assembly.

Sources further said that the issue of Parandur Airport issue is also likely to be discussed as the issue is getting heated up and the protests are getting intensified by the locals.
